A tartlet’s adventures in the kitchen, dodging an overenthusiastic kitten, an overly tall man who thinks he’s funny, and the ever present dust bunnies. Somehow, the food gets cooked.

The Week’s Menu

Posted by lemontartlet on February 1, 2008

This is what’s currently planned as the menu for the coming week. Grocery shopping has been changed to Thursdays now, because I did it this week and I really like the more relaxed feeling of being prepared for the weekend. This is the first week of my state project, and my first time in TWD and the DB. Hows’ the for a whole new range of projects! The best part is that Tuesdays With Dorie works out for me so that I can bake on Saturday, and share the results with the family on the usual family Saturday suppers. This week is a little different, there’s a get together on Sunday (B-Day celebration, not the Super Bowl), so Saturday we’ll be having D’s mom over here and I’ll do supper. Which part of the meal has to do with Alabama and why, I’ll explain when I put up the pics each day. Alabama gets shorted a day (sorry y’all!) by Fat Tuesday being this Tuesday. Holidays of any sort are always big cooking days for me, and I don’t want to ignore any of them.

2/1 Breakfast : Whole Grain Cereal

        Supper : Fish Chowder

2/2 Breakfast : Whole Wheat Pancakes With Strawberry Sauce

        Dinner : Fish Chowder

Supper : Pot Roast, Roasted Veggies, TWD

2/3 Breakfast : Apple - Pecan Muffins, Eggs

        Supper : Supper at D’s Mom’s

2/4 Breakfast : Whole Grain Cereal

        Dinner : Soup, Sandwich

Supper : Oven Fried Chicken, Fried Green Tomatoes, Cornbread

2/5 Breakfast : Whole Grain Cereal

        Dinner : Soup, Sandwich

Supper : Jambalaya, Dirty Rice, King Cakes

2/6 Breakfast : Whole Grain Cereal

        Dinner : Jambalaya

Supper : Fettuccine With Walnuts And Parsley, Mashed Sweet Potatoes With Orange Essence

2/7 Breakfast : Whole Grain Cereal

        Dinner : Soup, Sandwich

Supper : Turkey Burgers, Garlic Fries, Baked Beans, Peanut Butter Cookies

2/8 Breakfast : Whole Grain Cereal

        Dinner : Soup, Sandwich

Supper :  Meatloaf, Dirty Broccoli, Dill/Cheddar Biscuits

The Man Can Write, Ooo Baby!

Posted by lemontartlet on January 31, 2008

The D, the aforementioned beloved man writes He writes amazingly well, and I’m not saying this because he rocks my world. Go read some of this stuff, as long as you aren’t too squeamish and can handle creepiness in your stories. They give me nightmares, but y’all ain’t wusses like me. Don’t say I didn’t warn you! (Now go read)

What really happened on grocery day

Posted by lemontartlet on January 12, 2008

The budget is getting tight for this month, which is ok because I stocked up on a lot of things. Figured that getting rid of a few things from the list wouldn’t hurt, don’t really need more milk yet, regular onions will do for now, the chicken turned into fish, had enough garlic, how responsible of me! Onion rolls, kitty litter, orange juice, and fish is all I need! Oh look, decorator bag for frosting when I’ve been learning these new techniques (new to me anyway, basic to y’all), and cute little sprinkles, and two pounds of fresh strawberries from a local farm, and phyllo dough that I’ve always wanted to try, and puff pastry that I wanted to try! To be fair, I haven’t gone over budget yet. Two pounds of strawberries? What am I gonna do with them? *shakes her head at herself* Help!

Menus And Grocery Lists

Posted by lemontartlet on January 4, 2008

Every Friday I plan my menu for the next week, and make a grocery list. After which I promptly lose the menu *groan* Why not put it all here, so I can find it easily (and anybody reading along can get a chuckle out of me trying to follow it!) Each week I want to try a few new recipes, as well as start trying to make what we eat healthier. There are two people to feed, my guy and myself, and a feisty seven month old kitty, on a budget of $400.00 a month in Tampa Bay, FL. The more I can come in under the budget, the better, but right now the point is to stay on it.

Each week needs 7 breakfasts (5 weekday regulars, 2 weekend specials), 7 lunches (5 weekday regulars, 2 weekend specials), and 6 dinners (1 is at D’s mom’s).  Bread needs to be made once a week.

Customer Service

Posted by lemontartlet on December 22, 2007

Barnes and Noble has great customer service.  A few days ago, my beloved man gave me some old gift cards he had from Barnes and Noble. After a lot of shopping, I picked up three books (two Stitch n Bitch books and a drawing book), one DVD (AM ad PM Yoga), and a small artist’s model. The books and DVD got here quickly, but the artist’s model was missing, Instead, they had sent me a DVD basketball trivia game. As soon as I opened the box, I called them, and the woman was so nice to talk to. She was polite, cheerful, apologized for the error, and got my model sent out to me that second. She also sent me a pre-paid shopping label to return the other item. She was very nice to deal with, and I really appreciated being made to feel important to their company.

Groceries

Posted by lemontartlet on November 19, 2007

A few quick notes to help me be sure I’ve got everything I need for Thanksgiving, recipes and food.

  1. Cranberry salad (cranberry jello, cranberry juice, cream cheese, whipped topping, walnuts, cranberries)
  2. Bread (flour, yeast, milk, butter, salt, sugar, water)
  3. Spinach dip (spinach, vegetable soup mix, sour cream, mayo, water chestnuts)
  4. Green bean casserole (green beans, cream of mushroom soup, milk)

The only thing I’ll need to get at the grocery store is Cool Whip and a can of cranberries. The bread has to be made on Wednesday, and everything else can be made while Im waiting for the bread to rise. Gonna need a jello mold if I can find one, so that the salad sets up right.
