Little brothers are supposed to be little. They’re not allowed to turn into charmingly freckled, incredibly tall guys are they? Who authorized this? When he turned up on our doorstep for a week, he’d grows an alarming amount! He looks… almost sophisticated really. Much more mature than his 16 years, almost a grown… errrr…
Ok, not quite yet. Look at this expression would ya? This is what took over the house. The redheaded monster. Bratasaurus.
Together the bratasaurus and me made our very first bowl of ice cream. Standing on tiptoes (me, not him), we watched in amazement as the creamy ingredients churned their way to actual ice creamy goodness! Raspberry Sour Cream Ice Cream was that week’s TWD, and it didn’t last the evening before it was devoured.
Then he wanted to learn to bake something! Grabbing the country white bread recipe I know works every time, we tackled his first loaf of bread. It rose a little bit more than expected, which I’m blaming on him for distracting me.
Please pretend this picture ain’t here. It’s better for all of us, really.
Who knew sharks could be cute? Batasaurus and me headed to the local marine aquarium, a small one that focuses on marine rescue instead of shows. The animals were the best, but the real attraction for us was one dolphin named…
Winter! This gorgeous girl is Winter, known the world over for surviving all odds and learning to live without a tail. When she was young, her tail became tangled in a crap trap, and it was so badly damaged it fell off.
She’s learned to swim side to side like a shark, but while effective they worry that she’ll develop spinal problems from moving in a way her body wasn’t made for. Her very own prosthetic tail is being worked on right now, and soon she’ll be swimming like any other dolphin!
Celebrity dolphins aside, there were other stars as well. This is Cooper, a river otter who’s back legs don’t work after being struck by a car several years ago. He gets around just fine, dragging his back end on land and swimming like any other otter in the water.
Speaking of wild animals…
This is Nicholas! The white marks you see on his back are scars from third degree burns, as a baby he was beached and suffered intense burning from the sun. He’s healthy and happy now, and puts on a great performance!
Panama really won my heart. She’s an older dolphin, who’s teeth were too worn own to catch prey, and she became a begger dolphin. They swim by boats and beg for hand outs from people, which ends up being very bad for them when people feed them all sorts of junk food. Winter and Panama are friends, and chatted away at us as we leaned in over their tank. It’s a very small aquarium, and you can get right up close and personal with the girls (which they proved by cheerfully spraying me down).
What’s a day with the animals without souvenirs?
It’s her favourite chair. It’s near the end of the bed in our bedroom, and whenever D hasn’t thrown his jeans in it she’s playing in it. She and it have a stormy relationship, some days she’s snoozing in it and other days she’s attacking it violently over and over. Nobody knows how a cat and a chair developed a love hate relationship, but who are we to judge? Here she is, worn out after another battle with the chair (and after I’d straightened up the flag and blankie yet again).
She’s fuzzy, she’s cute. She’s the b-day kitty, Pi! No clue of when her real b-day is, so when the vet told us a few months ago she was between 7 and 9 months old we decided that March 14th was a good b-day for a kitten named Pi. The pics suck, and that’s my fault. Some absent minded girl left the digital camera outside the day before yesterday, and it rained yesterday all day. D took the camera apart, and it’s working now (after some hysterical sobbing from me about how I was awful and ruined his things and how my blogging career was ended). These pics were taken with my cel phone.
What better way to celebrate her day then with a salmon patty cake? The frosting is low fat cream cheese and no fat yogurt (to avoid upsetting her tummy with the fatty dairy) with a little pink food colouring. The candle was lit while we sang to her and she purred, then we took the candle out and gave her the cake.
D is surrounded at all times by a lemon tartlet, and a Pi. Which means, he really got his just desserts.
The D, the aforementioned beloved man writes He writes amazingly well, and I’m not saying this because he rocks my world. Go read some of this stuff, as long as you aren’t too squeamish and can handle creepiness in your stories. They give me nightmares, but y’all ain’t wusses like me. Don’t say I didn’t warn you! (Now go read)

The visit was really fun! There was much gift giving, snacking, and nothing I cooked went south. The house looked beautiful, the mom raved about it, and all in all it was a really good time. The whole time it seemed like we were either eating or laughing, and that’s how it should be.
It’s time to get to work on the new gift bags now, and I won’t say that I’m not looking forward to it. Been learning so much getting these done, and that’s more valuable than any other gift I could get. This idea of making a business may work yet, if people like what I do.
Haven’t written in forever, but I’m gonna try to make this an account of things as they happen. Thanksgiving went pretty well, it was very pleasent and the bread came out perfect. The only thng I wasn’t happy with was the green bean casserole, and that didn’t taste as good because I used the low sodium cream of mushroom soup. Usually that’s fine, but for a special occassion I’ll use the normal one. Now it’s officially the Christmas season, and I’ve volunteered to make hand made gift bags for everybody to try to save some money. The first two were supposed to have a week and a half to make, but the date was wrong and I had two and half days to make them. The result wasn’t what I was hoping for, but I did pretty well considering. This is what I put in there.
In fact, this time I’m gonna try to take pics of everything as I go along, cleaning, sewing, all of the cooking. Mom and G-Ma are coming this weekend, so it’s gonna be a scramble to get everything done. The house isn’t in good shape right now, it really got messed up when I had to do everything last week.
The biggest thing this week can be introduced best with a picture. Her name is Pi, and we found her out in the driveway, half starved and defending a few crumbs from a dog. There are no words to describe how adorable she is, how much we needed her.
