It’s a cake. A party cake. A very simple recipe that anybody can whip up while trying to get a dinner together. If you have a KA, it’s even easier.
The cake is lemon flavoured, and there’s no frosting at all. It was lemon pastry cream, because I’d made pastry cream on a whim and I wanted to use it. Making buttercream frosting sounded like too much butter for not enough pleasure.

The cake was very tasty, don’t get me wrong. As a challenge, it was very boring. The pastry cream was the only part that I ain’t that good at yet, it was a little bit lumpy after sitting around. Especially easy in comparison to baking with Easter Candy (we won’t even talk about how much CH kicked my butt this month, now there’s a challenge!) What to do when a cake ain’t making you do a dance? Put pink sprinkles on it.

well at least you made pastry cream and made it a challenge … I mean you’ve already made the cake before so you had to do something with it right?

Making pastry cream on a whim. Too funny! Great job on baking the cake and even better with pink sprinkles!

Hehe – pink sprinkles make the world go ’round
And make everything 10x better than they were originally, your pictures are a testament to that! Awesome idea with the pastry cream too!

Lucky you, to have such a cake walk…simple challenge? BTW, the son just peeped over my shoulder & said “YUM…I’d love to eat that!!”

Lemon pastry cream would definitely be a good filling for this cake.

I made the buttercream and would agree it was too much butter for not enough pleasure. But I liked the experience of trying to make a “real” buttercream. Your cake looks lovely.

Yeah, this seems to sum up what I felt about this challenge. It was boring and uninspired and I just put some col;ored sugar designs and called it a month. I wish I’d had pink, it would have gone better with Easter. Oh well… Your layers seem wonderful, though.

Too bad you didn’t enjoy the process a whole lot. But if you want to make some pastry cream again, feel free to send it my way
